Burke’s Garden valley is an isolated valley 3200 feet above sea level five.The 33,000- acre valley is five miles by ten miles and is located in the Appalachian Mountains in Southwest VA. It is often called God’s Thumbprint because of its shape and its breathtaking scenery.  Someone in James Burke’s original discovery party in the 1740s discarded potato peelings while cooking.  When they returned the following year, a bumper crop of potatoes was found growing there, leading to its name, Burke’s Garden.
